Cell Biology Research Techniques:

Part D: Cell Fractionation and Biochemical Techniques

 

General course description: 

A special techniques course designed for graduate students specializing in cell studies. Provides instrumentation training, with emphasis on application of the method to a research project.

Part D:  Cell Fractionation and Biochemical Techniques.

 

Course summary:

This laboratory course provides graduate students with individualized experience in specific techniques, including but not limited to the isolation of specific cellular organelles, isolation of specific groups of macromolecules (nucleic acids, amino acids, proteins, etc), enzyme and transport kinetics, enzyme assays, and colorimetric assays.  The course content is generally structured to provide specific benefits to the enrolled students so that the techniques learned can be applied to their degree research.  This is a graded course and can be repeated for additional credit with the approval of the graduate student’s supervisory committee and the department chair. 

 

Course offerings

The course is offered on an “as needed” basis, with class size limited to a small, manageable number (7 students maximum).  NOTE: Although the course may be posted on SalukiNet, it may not actually be offered in a given semester.  Students interested in this course should contact the department chair or Dr. Stephen Ebbs to inquire about upcoming offerings for this course.  The day and time that the course is scheduled in a given semester is based upon the schedule of the students enrolled.
