students specializing in cell studies. Provides
instrumentation training, with emphasis on application of the method to a
research project.
Part D: Cell Fractionation and Biochemical
Techniques.
Course summary:
This laboratory course provides graduate students with
individualized experience in specific techniques, including but not limited to
the isolation of specific cellular organelles, isolation of specific groups of
macromolecules (nucleic acids, amino acids, proteins, etc), enzyme and
transport kinetics, enzyme assays, and colorimetric assays. The course content is generally structured to
provide specific benefits to the enrolled students so that the techniques learned
can be applied to their degree research.
This is a graded course and can be repeated for additional credit with
the approval of the graduate student’s supervisory committee and the department
