Course description: This course will explore the mechanistic and
energetic basis of water relations and membrane transport in plants as well as historical
and modern perspectives on plant mineral nutrition. Laboratory exercises will emphasize
contemporary methods in these areas, including measurement of plant water
status, enzyme and transport kinetics, diagnosis and alleviation of plant
mineral deficiencies, and the use of stable and radioisotopes. This course is offered in the spring of even
numbered years.

Supplementary reading material: These
recommended readings are intended to expand student understanding of some
topics in the Marschner text. This
page will be updated occasionally so watch for changes. Some readings may be covered on exams, but

Primary literature analysis: Every two
weeks, students are required to submit two literature summaries from each of
the sets of papers below. Each set
corresponds to a segment of the lecture topics.
