COURSE DESRIPTION

420-3 Techniques in Molecular Biology. Students will gain hands-on experience with current molecular
techniques being applied to questions in the plant sciences. These include isozyme electrophoresis, DNA and
RNA extraction, restriction endonuclease digestions, Northern blotting, Southern blotting, PCR (polymerase
chain reaction) and gene cloning. Students will gain experience in the use of computers in manipulating and
analyzing molecular data. $15 lab fee. Prerequisite: either Biology 200b or Plant Biology 200, and junior
standing or consent of instructor.
