Flowers: Actinomorphic. Perfect or unisexual. Stamens many, free or connate, opposite petals. Parietal placentation.

Inflorescence: Solitary or in terminal cymes.

Fruits: Capsules, berries, drupes.

Habit: Trees, shrubs, herbs.

Leaves: Opposite, without stipules. Many with PELUCID OIL GLANDS on leaves or  glandular punctate. Sap yellow in Clusia.
