Welcome to the Non-Native Invasive Species (NNIS)
website. The goal of this project is to develop a database of non-native
species found in the Shawnee National Forest (SNF) in southern Illinois. We are
collecting and compiling information from a wide variety of sources, including herbarium
records, scientific literature, agency reports, and questionnaires
completed by knowledgeable informants.
We solicit your voluntary assistance in answering a questionnaire on the above
subject. The purpose of this questionnaire is to gather information on
NNIS of plants in the SNF. We ask
that you provide information on the non-native species that may be present in
the SNF. These species have been put into two groups. Group A
species have been identified to be more invasive than Group B. Consider
species in Group A before Group B.
Below, you will find links to the consent form, the
questionnaire, the list of Group A species, the list of Group B
species, and a list of community types in Illinois.
Please fill out the consent form first. The consent form is needed because your name will remain in our data base according to the guidelines of the Human Subject Committee of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Then fill out a separate questionnaire for each species on the list for which you have information. Fill out as many cells on the sheet as possible; we recognize that respondents will not have information on every item for each species. For guidance in habitat descriptions, please refer to the list of Illinois Natural Areas Inventory community types below. If you have herbarium records (personal or otherwise) and would like to contribute those, please download the spreadsheet provided below, fill in your records, and email it back to us with your surname as part of the file name.
You may return the questionnaires via mail or email (see email addresses below). Please contact Dr. David Gibson or Dr. Loretta Battaglia if additional postage is needed to mail in the questionnaires.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Sincerely,
